Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician II position is currently open at the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services. Qualified candidates are being actively sought for this role, which involves conducting preventative maintenance, operating, and repairing equipment, tools, and vehicles, performing groundskeeping duties, and applying turf care. The role encompasses crucial responsibilities such as preparing ball fields for athletic events, promptly addressing facility emergencies, and fulfilling snow removal requests. These tasks hold significant importance in this position. The successful candidate in this position will perform skilled maintenance tasks and repairs while providing onsite task supervision.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Executes site safety inspections following the procedures in the preventive maintenance plan and examines the Safety Data Sheet books.
  • Controls and handles machinery, equipment, vehicles, and tools.
  • They may act as crucial staff during county emergencies and perform outdoor maintenance tasks.
  • Organize tents, tables, chairs, supplies, equipment, and parking logistics for special events and tournaments.
  • The job entails the operation of heavy equipment and vehicles, such as trucks with trailers, and the transportation of heavy machinery to, from, and on the site.
  • Carries out snow clearing in specified locations as outlined in the County snow plan.
  • Offers support in the development of maintenance schedules for equipment and fields; verifies that work orders are finished promptly for clients.
  • Tracks monthly materials and supplies inventory and provides a list of items to be purchased.
  • Other essential job functions unique to the position and department assignment may be carried out.
  • It is essential to have flexibility to work on weekdays, evenings, and weekends as necessary, and to report as instructed or called upon request.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with coursework in semi-skilled carpentry, basic trades, or landscaping based on assigned area and two (2) years of related work experience in grounds maintenance and/or basic general maintenance, preferably inclusive of some level of performance in a work leader capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Must be able to lift (60) pounds and be flexible with schedules to accommodate special events.
  • Must undergo pre-employment criminal, credit, and DMV background checks.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
  • First Aid/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire;
  • County e-learning as required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:
  • Hold or obtain a CDL (Class A) with passenger, airbrake, and/or tanker endorsements within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to hold or obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's/Fertilizer Applicator License.
  • OSHA certifications such as forklift, bucket truck, and lift truck are required within department timeframes.
