Job Summary

The organization is currently in need of skilled individuals who can fulfill the requirements of this position, which primarily involve carrying out basic maintenance, landscaping, and operational support duties. Within this role, essential responsibilities encompass the preparation, trimming, cutting, raking, mulching, watering, and weeding of grounds. Additionally, there may be a need for specialized turf care and the preparation of fields for athletic games.

The position also requires basic maintenance and repair work on vehicles and equipment, as well as the application of basic building trade skills for preventative maintenance and repairs. Although this position does not include any supervisory responsibilities, it may involve overseeing the work tasks of volunteers, seasonal staff, and community service workers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Executes primary maintenance, repairs, and work orders.
  • Respond to county emergencies as essential personnel.
  • Provides preventive maintenance by identifying and resolving problems.
  • Operates heavy equipment and vehicles, including trucks with trailers; transports heavy equipment.
  • After inspecting County facilities and vehicles, completes the report, submits the work request, and informs the customer of the findings and the expected resolution.
  • Carries out exterior maintenance.
  • Ensures that required vehicle records are maintained.
  • Responsible for cutting grass and maintaining trails in the park, as well as the visitor center, open fields, and buildings in the park.
  • Assists in the removal of snow in assigned areas as specified by the County snow plan.
  • In addition to performing essential job functions, the position and department may require additional tasks.

The ideal candidate(s) for these positions will be committed to keeping our parks beautiful and safe and keeping our sports fields tournament quality. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work while following best practices in the field of outdoor maintenance to ensure safe environments for all who work and play at our PRCS locations.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of related work experience in basic grounds and/or building maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must undergo pre-employment criminal and DMV background checks. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that will include weekday, evening, and weekend hours. Must be able to work on an as needed or recall basis or report as needed as assigned. May be required to work beyond scheduled workday or on weekends and may be subject to recall. Must be able to lift sixty (60) pounds.

CDL Information:

  • Claude Moore Park Position (Sterling, VA): Hold or obtain a CDL (Class A) with passenger, airbrake, and/or tanker endorsements within six (6) months of hire PREFERRED.
  • Turf Crew Position (Leesburg, VA): Hold or obtain a CDL (Class A) with passenger, airbrake, and/or tanker endorsements within six (6) months of hire REQUIRED.
