The mission of the Sidewalk Program is to support the agency's goal by providing for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people by making sidewalks safe and accessible for all pedestrians.

Under general supervision, the selected Apprentice Inspectors H&S (Highway and Sewers) will be responsible for performing the following duties but not limited to: Conduct field audits and inspections for construction and maintenance of sidewalks, curbs, and center medians at Vision Zero Projects to ensure field workers' compliance with State, City and New York City Department of Transportation's Polices, Rules and Regulations relating to Personal Protective Equipment, Maintenance & Protection of Traffic (MPT)and Environmental Requirements. Participate in ongoing work zone safety initiatives and informational sessions for work crews assigned at the Citywide Concrete and Sidewalk Inspections Units. Make thorough observations and assessments of work zones and prepare detailed Reports that include photographic documentation. Operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

License Requirement
Must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
