Responsibilities

The mission of NYITCOM at Arkansas State University's Department of Biomedical & Anatomical Sciences is to provide quality preclinical education for medical students, to educate and train graduate, undergraduate, and postdoctoral biomedical scientists, to carry out basic and translational research of recognized excellence, and to participate in governance and leadership in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at New York Tech and appropriate national scientific and professional societies.

We are currently accepting applications for Research Assistants - both Undergraduate and Medical levels on the NYITCOM - Arkansas campus. The ideal Research Assistant candidate would have experience in fundamental cellular and molecular biological techniques with a preference for handling research animals. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by supervising faculty based on education and level of experience.

Based on education and level of experience, duties and responsibilities may include:

    Undergraduate - Enrolled in Undergraduate degree program (Biology or related areas)
    • In vitro experiments - Cell culture, biochemical, molecular, pharmacological, physiological, histological, etc.
    • Small animal handling and in vivo and ex vivo studies
    • Data collection, analysis, and maintenance of records
    • Presentations, Publications, and Fellowship/Grant writing
    • Laboratory support
  • Graduate - Enrolled in Year 1 of PhD Program (Molecular Biosciences)
    • Small animal handling and in vivo and ex vivo studies
    • In vitro experiments - Cell culture, biochemical, molecular, pharmacological, physiological, histological, etc.
    • Data collection, analysis, and maintenance of records
    • Presentations, Publications, and Grant/Fellowship writing
    • Laboratory support
  • Medical Student - Enrolled in medical education degree program
    • Small animal handling and in vivo and ex vivo studies
    • In vitro experiments - Cell culture, biochemical, molecular, pharmacological, physiological, histological, etc.
    • Data collection, analysis, and maintenance of records
    • Presentations, Publications, and Fellowship/Grantwriting

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong work ethic and an interest in developing independent research Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with molecular biological techniques including electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
  • Strong experience troubleshooting basic science experiments and laboratory equipment
  • Strong experience with laboratory research animals and in vivo preclinical studies
