The Regional Sales Associate role is intended for those who are newer to sales. This role will cover accounts across the US.

Seeking graduates and/or early-careerprofessionals with a strong educational background and a drive to join an ambitious sales team, representing a unique, world-leading academic publisher. You'll join our committed team of professionals who are passionate about education and working in an engaged and collaborative way all while having a direct impact on a better society. Our group of highly trained, skilled sales specialists believe in the quality, equity and importance of our products and are motivated by the desire to be the best in the industry and increase our commercial success.

This is a remote home-office based role with a Sales Development focus to increase our US customer base and revenue in North American libraries by capturing new and dormant business mainly through virtual customer meetings, phone calls and emails. Some occasional in-person visits are required both on campus and by conference. Proactively identify sales opportunities and contact prospective customers, demonstrating effective communication and consultative selling skills. Support end-users and faculty experts with advanced product knowledge. Support the regional sales team with customer follow-up and campaigns with existing customers.

Main Duties:

New Business Opportunities


  • Research new and existing markets to identify prospective customers
  • Conduct effective cold-call, email campaigns, and appointments to qualify leads and introduce our products to both new and existing customers
  • Understand customer needs and requirements and provide appropriate paths forward to close sales
  • Effectively work with each regional sales team and Library Engagement team members to ensure all customer contacts are being maintained across the entire territory
  • Meet or exceed weekly contact goals by phone and email as well as goals for appointments (in-person or online) with new opportunities.

Business Development


  • Increase revenue and customer base by meeting or exceeding monthly, quarterly and annual targets set by the VP of North American Sales
  • Prepare and deliver appropriate and effective customer demonstrations virtually or onsite
  • Maintain advanced product knowledge and keep informed about current industry trends
  • Expand database of prospects within assigned territory
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues on consortia offers, nationwide opportunities and other long-term sales work
  • Conduct regular territory planning, forecasting and effective management of opportunities with the rest of the North American sales team
  • Continuously filter market feedback through the appropriate internal channels to ensure our resources are adapting to customer needs

After Sales/Team Support


  • Ensure new contacts are added onto the CRM database
  • Update entries on the CRM system and work with Account Support Specialists to ensure CRM information is accurate
  • Work with the Regional Sales Manager and Customer and Account Support Specialists to resolve any client issues that arise

Additional duties include:


  • Participate in industry conferences throughout North America and offsite team meetings
  • Actively participate in sales generating activities to ensure opportunities are monitored and closed in a timely manner

Professional Experience and Skills


  • Relevant academic and/or professional experience in business development combined with effective consultative selling skills
  • Ability to provide product-related support to customers and end users
  • Experience of supporting regional sales teams with customer follow up and campaigns
  • Ability to work towards and deliver commercial targets
  • Previous knowledge of the publishing sector or related a plus
  • Demonstrated success working in a team setting
  • Previous experience working remotely a plus
  • Familiarity with higher education experience is preferred, but not required
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal and written proficiency are central to the success of this role
  • Basic competency in computer software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint
