Bioinformatics Analyst

Summary:

Under the general supervision
of the Bioinformatics Scientist Department Manager Laboratory Directors and
Pathologists and in accordance with established policies and procedures the
Bioinformatics Analyst performs independently in the Department of Pathology. The
Bioinformatics Analyst will be responsible for analyzing clinical Next
Generation Sequencing data contributing to the development of data analysis
pipelines and organizing and maintaining databases.

Responsibilities:

Participates in the daily
clinical bioinformatics workflow such as DNA-seq and RNA-seq data analysis.

Analyzes the clinical data
for the validation of new Next Generation Sequencing tests.

Assists with preparation of
validation summaries of the new Next Generation Sequencing tests.

Assists in developing
analysis pipelines for Next Generation Sequencing tests.

Evaluates analytical aspects
of emerging analysis methods.

Assists in the development of
databases and webtools.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Bachelors Degree required.

Master*s Degree in
Bioinformatics Computational Biology Computer Science or a related field is
preferred.

Demonstrates strong
scientific understanding of genomics.

Demonstrates proficiency in programming
and scripting skills (e.g Perl Python or Java).

Demonstrates knowledge of
DNA-seq and RNA-seq data analysis tools (e.g. BWA GATK STAR Samtools).

Demonstrates knowledge of
database and webtool development (e.g. SQL HTML CSS Apache).

Maintains up-to-date
knowledge of bioinformatics data analysis tools

Familiarity with CAP/CLIA lab
setting is preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:

At least two years of
industry or clinical lab experience. Experience in developing computational
approaches for cancer genome and/or germline analysis is highly desirable.

Excellent teamwork time
management and organizational skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the
Bioinformatics Analyst to work closely with Bioinformatics Scientists Medical Technologists
Management Laboratory Directors and Pathologists.

Ability to operate equipment
and instruments and to perform all procedures within assigned laboratory
section and interpret them for accuracy. Physical and visual dexterity
necessary to conduct and interpret analysis. Visual strain is encountered while
closely examining data.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Ability to work independently
in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.

Ability to multi-task and
work on multiple clinical and developmental projects simultaneously.

Analyst functions
independently within the department*s policies and procedures. Refers specific complex issues to the
Bioinformatics Scientist Manager Laboratory Directors or Pathologists when
clarification of policies and procedures is required.

None.
