RHD Boston provides residential, day, and individual supports to men and women with developmental disabilities in the Greater Boston area. Programs are located in the Greater Boston area.

Our programs focus on a person-centered planning approach, and much care is given to working with individuals to create homes adapted to meet individual needs. We provide intensive support in the area of life skills, social skills, and community involvement with an emphasis on having fun while pursing personal goals.

Position Summary

The Community Inclusion Specialist (CIS) provides assistance to adults with developmental disabilities. The CIS creates and facilitates daily outings designed to promote community integration, build cultural identity, and connect participants with relevant opportunities to help meet their larger goals within the community. Participants may spend time in the community engaging in anything from cultural activities, museum visits, life skills-based excursions, volunteer opportunities, parks and more. The CIS may accompany up to 5 people at a time in the community, using public transportation or in their own personal vehicle.

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Escort, supervise and oversee groups of up to 5 participants into the community on a daily basis to take part in activities and/or events.
  • Meet the basic needs of our participants while in the community. This may include medication administration, or assistance with other Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required by the participant.
  • Implement ISP's (Individual Support Plans) and behavior plans, as needed.
  • Maintain sufficient knowledge of participants' ISPs and personal needs required to work with them in a meaningful and productive way.
  • Create monthly budgets for outings and maintain tracking of receipts and expenditures for reconciliation.
  • Complete all required paperwork, including but not limited to daily progress notes on a regular and timely basis.
  • Drive agency vehicles or use public transportation to assist individuals in accessing the community.
  • Attend to basic first aid, when needed.

Requirements

High School Diploma, Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Three years' experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
  • Basic Computer skills using Microsoft Products.
  • Valid driver's license, regular access to a vehicle, and a clean driving record.

  • Medium: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
