Position Summary Department of Communication and Journalism The UNM Department of Communication and Journalism anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach in the Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024 semesters. The Department of Communication and Journalism is seeking qualified temporary part time faculty members to teach undergraduate level classes in various subjects as specified above. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class that they are assigned to teach. Such responsibilities include but are not limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, delivering course content, developing and grading assignments, reporting grades, and assessing student learning outcomes per standards outlined by the department. Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, the department's matrix for course offerings, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Chair of the UNM Department of Communication and Journalism. Best Consideration Dates: Fall 2023 - July 1, 2023 Spring 2024 - December 1, 2023 Summer 2024 - March 15, 2024 Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Pursuant to the accreditation standards set by the Higher Learning Commission, applicants are considered qualified to teach the courses described above if they either. 1. Hold a master's degree or higher in the discipline or subfield for which they are applying Or 2. Hold a master's degree or higher in a discipline related to but other than that for which they are applying and have successfully completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which they are applying. Or 3. Consistent with the UNM College of Arts and Sciences policy on the qualifications needed to teach undergraduate courses based on equivalent tested experience, applicants are considered qualified to teach professional/technical skills courses in the Department if they hold a bachelor's degree in the discipline or subfield for which they are applying and either: (a) for teaching 1000- and 2000-level courses, have documented satisfactory performance of working for 3 years as a professional in the discipline or subfield for which they are applying, or Preferred Qualifications: 1. An earned doctorate from an accredited institution. 2. Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution. 3.
