Position Summary

Are you a seasoned carpenter with a knack for precision and craftsmanship? Do you take pride in transforming blueprints into stunning, functional structures? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to showcase your skills and make a tangible impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Master Craftsmanship: Construct, repair, and install various carpentry elements, including custom cabinetry, moldings, trim, and window and door systems.
  • Structural Expertise: Handle installations and repairs of frame walls, sheetrock, insulation, and flooring with finesse.
  • Custom Solutions: Design and build custom cabinetry and perform detailed restoration work on wood cabinets, flooring, and furniture.
  • Technical Precision: Read and interpret complex blueprints, field drawings, and project layouts with ease.
  • Safety & Maintenance: Promote safety, maintain equipment, and contribute to continuous improvement in workplace practices.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in carpentry or related fields; a high school diploma or GED is required (advanced degrees can substitute for experience).
  • Skills: Proficiency in carpentry, cabinet-making, joinery, laminates, and historic restoration.
  • Tools Mastery: Ability to use hand and power tools effectively; skilled in wood surface preparation, staining, and sealing techniques.
  • Blueprint Proficiency: Ability to interpret schematics and construction documents accurately.
  • Safety First: Strong understanding and adherence to safety procedures and standards.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in carpentry or construction.
  • Advanced Skills: Experience with specialized carpentry techniques or historic restoration projects.
  • Team Player: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a construction crew.
  • Driving License: Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license.
