Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor, Pulmonary Function - Bellevue Hospital.

Clinical responsibilities:

  1. General supervision of all laboratory activities
  2. Training, supervision, and annual evaluation of all laboratory staff (technical and clerical)
  3. Establish testing procedures and laboratory protocols for manual of operations. Review and update periodically (annually) and as needed.
  4. Evaluation of each patient request to determine relevant pulmonary function tests
  5. Presence during testing procedures that require direct physician supervision (e.g. methacholine challenge, cardiopulmonary exercise and esophageal manometry)
  6. Review of tests for quality, accuracy and adequacy before patient leaves laboratory

Laboratory technical support:

  1. Responsibility for technical functioning and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  2. Oversee troubleshooting of equipment malfunction and associated repairs
  3. Establish biological controls for ongoing quality assurance of PFT measurements
  4. Oversee ordering of disposable and other laboratory equipment
  5. Coordinate purchasing of new and replacement of old testing equipment
  6. Oversight over ordering medical gases for testing and patient treatment
  7. Supervise compliance with storage and handling of medical gases
  8. Supervision over sterilization of reusable equipment
  9. Supervision over maintenance and replacement of laboratory code cart

Laboratory administration:

  1. Supervision of patient appointments, scheduling and work flow
  2. Coordinate staffing, vacations, coverage during illnesses / absences, etc
  3. Interface with Bellevue administration
  4. Collaborate with Bellevue IT to develop and implement electronic transfer of test data and corresponding interpretations to Bellevue EMR
  5. Generate laboratory workload statistics
  6. Design and supervise performance improvement projects
  7. Prepare laboratory for regulatory inspections (e.g. JCAHO)

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in respiratory care as recognized by the New York State Board for Respiratory Therapy; New York State respiratory technician license; computer competency, including basic understanding of, and ability to work with, Microsoft Windows and pulmonary function software programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Two years full time acute care hospital PFT laboratory experience including at least 1 year PFT laboratory management experience

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 - $112,951.35 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
