Job Summary

The Central Processing Educator will develop and provide orientation, continuing education, competency and training, and staff development for the Central Processing Unit (CPU). This positions' primary responsibility is for developing, implementing, tracking and managing all departmental educational activities that include training programs /curriculum and instruction for both newly hired and current staff members. This position will be responsible for writing, reviewing, and updating unit competencies and assisting management in updating and or developing department policy and procedures. Provides support to all staff to maintain Continuing Education Unit (CEU) opportunities offered to employees as well as assistance in certication / re-certication. Incumbent must be able to organize departmental in services and coordinate vendor in-services for continuous training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • CRCST from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) OR CSPDT from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or a combination of experience, education and/or training
  • 5+ years of recent demonstrated experience working as a Sterile Technician in a Sterile Processing Department.
  • 1+ year experience as a Trainer/Educator, including experience developing and implementing educational and training plans for various roles in the department.

Department Overview

Central Processing is one department within Perioperative Services that supports operating rooms and procedural areas by cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing surgical instrumentation and equipment. The Central Processing unit also supports Patient Care Services, Ambulatory Services and the Primary Care Network: within the health system by cleaning, disinfecting reusable equipment and the cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization of surgical instrumentation used by these services. Central Processing cleans and restocks all emergency crash carts; rst responder bags, airway boxes and ICU transport bags. The Central Processing manages, scal, materiel, and human resources to support the planning and coordination of surgical care and other patient care in the hospital and clinics.
