GENERAL PURPOSE

This Mechanical Design Engineer Intern is responsible for working as a member of a small cross-functional engineering and design team. The Mechanical Design Engineer Intern will assist to develop new products, improve existing products and customize products to meet customer demands. This internship is designed to develop engineering design, technical and software skills.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist in the designing of products through innovation, computer aided design, communication, and drawings.

  • Collaborate with engineering and product management to develop, maintain, and improve products.

  • Evaluate changes or improvements to designs or specification of existing products.

  • Utilize problem-solving techniques in brainstorm sessions.

  • Adhere to all safety regulations.

  • Perform other job duties as assigned to meet business needs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience with hands-on problem solving.

  • Ability to work effectively in an innovative and dynamic environment.

  • Computer literate (MS Office, e-mail, etc.)

  • Strong written communication skills.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to apply mechanical design principles.

  • Ability to interpret standards, specifications, procedures, drawings, etc.

  • Needs to be flexible and adaptable to improve project time, products and design.

  • Ability to work in team environment.

  • Ready and eager to learn and gain experience.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or above in engineering or similar technical field and completed at least 2 years of college.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and/or training in a CAD package such as Creo, Pro-E, or SolidWorks

  • Ability to work in a cross functional team

  • Ability to quickly grasp and apply new concepts

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for product testing and tradeshow purposes

  • Combination of general office and machine shop environment

  • May require ground travel to other company facilities within local metropolitan area
