Overview

The Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Research and Infrastructure Service Enterprise (RISE), a research division housed within the Office of Research. We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated researcher with expertise in public health and/or clinical research, coupled with a strong background in research methods and statistics. Candidates with additional expertise in bioinformatics, particularly in the analysis of omics and genomic data, will be given preference. This faculty member will play a crucial role in advancing the school's health services research infrastructure and supporting clinical investigators in their research endeavors. Faculty members are also encouraged to pursue their own fields of interest, apply for grants, and continue to publish their research. Responsibilities

Provide expertise in research design, statistical analysis plans, data management, data visualization, data collection and extraction, database design, randomization, sample size calculation, and power analysis.

Work closely with clinical investigators to guide them through the research process, from protocol development and data collection to analysis and publication.

Foster internal and external collaborations to sustain and expand the health services research infrastructure at the medical school.

Contribute to the development and delivery of research methods, statistics, and bioinformatics training to learners, including resident and faculty researchers.

Mentor residents and junior faculty in research methodology and bioinformatics.

Actively pursue external funding opportunities and maintain a robust research portfolio.

Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at regional, national, and international conferences.

Assist with grant preparation, and abstract, manuscript, and related dissemination efforts.

Generate reports for internal and external audiences.



Qualifications

Doctoral degree (Ph.D., DrPH, or equivalent) in public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical research, or a related field.

Proven track record of research in clinical and public health domains, including demonstrated expertise in research design, statistical analysis, data management, and data visualization.

Evidence of, or potential for, securing extramural funding.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues and stakeholders.

Experience with a major statistical package such as R or SAS.

Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with public, partners, customers, and co-workers, while working cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals.

Ability to manage time and resources to ensure assignments are completed accurately and deadlines are met.

Ability to adapt to changing work environments, work priorities, and organizational needs with enthusiasm and energy.

Ability to express ideas effectively and demonstrate sound judgment with regard to decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications:

    Postdoctoral research experience in a relevant field.
  1. Proven track record of securing external research funding.
  2. Experience working with large-scale health data, such as electronic health records, genomic data, or population-based datasets.
  3. Experience in developing and delivering bioinformatics training to students and researchers.
  4. Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools and platforms, such as Python and Galaxy.
  5. Experience with survey design and management programs such as REDCap.
