The University of Virginia seeks candidates for a social science researcher and writer for the newly established National Security Data & Policy Institute. We seek candidates with strong quantitative, written communication, and oral communication skill sets. The Researcher will draw on training and experience in the social sciences, data science, computer science, or other related fields to contribute to institute deliverables. This role will report to the Institute Program Manager and will provide research support and coordination for a set of Institute deliverables. The deliverables require collaborative work with research teams across the University and externally and will be responsible for training and supervising student workers and assisting with literature searches. This is a full-time in-person position, with a negotiable flex schedule after the first two months. In-person attendance at meetings and events will be required throughout the year.
Specific Duties: The Researcher will support the Executive Director, Program Manager, and research teams in producing institute deliverables, research articles, policy white papers, and government reports. The individual occupying this role will be responsible for conducting original research under the direction of principal investigators, editing research products, and leading student research teams. They will manage in-house and external publications, including press releases, profiles, and articles. Other responsibilities may include:
