Summary:

Under the direction of the RN the endoscopy technician is responsible for assisting with the care and safety of the patient in the endoscopy suite.

Other duties include assisting physician with endoscopy procedure and processing of endoscopy equipment.

The endoscopy technician is responsible for performing a range of support activities that contribute to the overall efficiency of the perioperative endoscopy and CSD areas.

Work involves inventorying disassembling cleaning high level disinfection sterilization reassembling and maintaining operating room and endoscopy instrumentation/equipment.

The endoscopy technician performs in between case cleaning and terminal cleaning.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists physician with endoscopy procedure
  • Cleaning of endoscopes: High level disinfection
  • Performs disinfection and sterilization of instrumentation in the central service department
  • Processes all instruments for the operating room according to manufucterer's recommendations
  • Updates and maintains IFU's related to endoscopy/operating room equipment and instrumentation
  • Performs specimen handling in the endoscopy suite
  • Performs documentation and logs related to sterilization including temperature and humidity logs eye wash log and instrument/equipment repair log
  • Assists with transporting and positioning of patients
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • 1 - 5 years preferred
  • Ability to assist physician in all endoscopic procedures
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique infection control principles sterilization techniques equipment and supply processing and operation of steam sterilizers*
  • Knowledge of Spauling Classification*
  • Knowledge of Universal Protocol*
  • Knowledge of AORN Standards and Recommended Practices*
  • Knowledge of AAMI Guidelines*
  • Knowledge of ASGE Guidelines*
  • Ability to prioritize equipment needs of the operating room/endoscopy suite
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and is self-motivated
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills


*on-the-job training will be provided to establish knowledge base

EDUCATION:



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CRCST preferred BLS required
