Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $18.32 - Midpoint: $21.97 (Hourly N4)

Department/Organization: 208123 - Institute for Rural Health Research

Normal Work Schedule: Varies; must be available to work evenings and weekends.

Job Summary: The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician provides out of hospital emergency medical care and assists with transport for critical and emergent patients, including non-emergency/routine medical transports and life threatening emergencies.

Additional Department Summary: Performs interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. Leads stabilization and safe transport of patients needing emergency care. Functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight, and serves as a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. Completes incident reports in a timely and accurate manner.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. Must be licensed as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician by the State of Alabama.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR/AED First Aid certification, or ability to obtain upon hire. Must be able to lift/push up to 200 pounds; this position will assist in the evacuation of sick and injured persons during an emergency.

Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of the University of Alabama campus and surrounding area. Functional understanding of basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. Functional understanding of communications equipment, including telephone, 2-way radios, and recording equipment.

Excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative skills. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and health care professionals. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and the requirement to follow HIPPA regulations at all times.

Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Working knowledge of data entry and Microsoft Office. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
