Director, Quality
Business Unit: Power and Actuation Systems

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experience Director of Quality Engineering for our Power and Actuation Business Unit. As a Director of Business Unit Quality, you are accountable for ensuring that the processes and culture across the organization are aligned to the goal of delivering a high-quality product that can consistently meet increasingly challenging customer expectations. The Director of Quality acts with independence to determine the acceptability of product and process as it relates to deliverable items to customers. You are required to build Quality Management Best Practices into key business processes, while being the last line of defense to protect customers from non-conforming product. Responsibilities include all quality-related activities in support of production flow from preparing Bids through, and supplier quality engineering management to Shipment of product and Post Delivery support to the customer. The Director of Quality reports directly to the Business Unit Vice President.

Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead and manage a team of supplier quality engineers, quality engineers, and inspectors providing guidance, mentorship, and training to ensure their success.
  • Collaborate with Cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain, to ensure quality is integrated into all aspects of product development and production.
  • Develop and maintain quality metrics, reports, and dashboards to measure performance and identify areas or improvement.
  • Interface with customers, regulatory agencies, and industry organizations to ensure quality requirements are met and to stay informed of industry developments.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, such as AS9001, and regulatory requirements
  • Actively participate in the development of Marotta business and Quality strategy to achieve company financial and business goals
  • Develop and implement comprehensive quality engineering strategies and plans to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements
  • Performance of Contract Review and flow down of Quality requirements to the organization
  • Business Unit Quality interface to the customer including Customer Source Inspection (CSI) and Government Source Inspection (GSI) as well as customer specific events such as audits and customer scorecards
  • Nonconforming Material disposition including Material Review Board (MRB), Nonconformance Record (NCR) review and analysis, Failure Analysis, Failure Review Board (FRB), Root Cause identification and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), and Business Unit Corrective Action Board (CAB)
  • Supplier Quality including Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), Supplier visits and audits, Supplier NCRs, Supplier Scorecards and Ratings, Supplier Improvement, and Supplier Source Inspection
  • Create and manage department budget and capital plans
  • Preparation of Program BOEs as required
  • Provide information to internal and external customers on project progress and latest expectations
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Identify barriers to success and solicit support from Executive leadership, as needed


Additional Duties / Responsibilities:


  • Business Unit Quality Floor Support including lot trace and in-process and final inspection
  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required)
  • Continue work seamlessly while traveling on company business (i.e. conduct work using mobile devices, from hotels, while at trade shows, and/or across varying time zones when necessary)
  • Ensure self, direct reports (if applicable), and personnel company-wide, are abiding by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements.
  • Foster a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization
  • Lead, and/or actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. to provide constructive recommendations and initiate actions to support company initiatives/goals
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values
  • Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required


Minimum Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum 10 years of proven experience in a manufacturing/testing environment
  • Bachelor's degree in an Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering field of study
  • Certified Lean Practitioner/Trainer
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing production flow and statistics (control charting, SPC, Cpk, Cp, Std. dev., etc.)
  • Familiar with Military, Commercial aircraft and Space level specifications, drawings, and standards
  • Knowledgeable of AS9100 & ISO system standards/requirements, ESD, MRB, Foreign Object Debris/Damage (FOD) Controls, FAI's, root cause analysis, product testing, performance metrics and System/Process audits


  • Familiar with leading kaizen events, value stream mapping and utilizing lean problem-solving methods.
  • Experience with change management, with proven track record of business performance improvement
  • Exemplary verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as all outside agents, including but not limited to, vendors, suppliers, customers, job candidates, etc.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Highly computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc. (flow chart and statistical/analytical software packages, ERP and QMS systems)

Work Environment:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 8 hours, Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties demand.
  • Some local and non-local travel is required for this position (15% to 25%)

    • Frequent local travel to our Parsippany NJ location.




Physical Requirements:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand (approx. 50%), sit, walk, and move about the facility.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push, pull and/or move items weighing up to 45 pounds


This position is at our Montville, NJ office location.
